WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD

Workforce Investment BoardThe Workforce Investment Board (WIB) oversees the PeninsulaWorks One-Stop Career System, partnering the myriad of federal, state and local employment, training, development and educational services currently in place.  This approach attempts to eliminate duplication, maximize available resources and build a skilled workforce for a rapidly changing local economy.  The Board also has the authority to recommend broader policy-oriented approaches to local workforce development, reporting directly to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors.

In this effort, the WIB strives to enable San Mateo County residents to find and keep jobs that help them achieve their full employment potential; encourage employers to use the workforce development system to successfully locate, hire, train, and retain qualified employees; and to support workforce development partners in maintaining a strong local economy, reflecting the diversity of job seekers and employers and the unique spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation that characterizes our local area.

The Board consists of representatives from labor organizations, education, economic development, community based organizations, adult/dislocated worker programs, one-stop partners and small and large local businesses.  The Board has a minimum of 29 members, with a majority comprised of business representatives.
