Welcome to the San Mateo County Workforce Investment Board's website.

As the newly elected Chair for the 2004-2006 term, I am honored to be a part of this professional team. I come on board as Chair with twelve years of County workforce experience, as a retired United Airlines Western Regional Employment Manager and presently a private Career Workforce Consultant.

Since our inception four years ago, the Workforce Investment Board has established a solid foundation of business partnerships through the efforts of our private and public sector members. These partnerships work together with the resources of our One-Stop Centers and community partners to accomplish our community job placement, training and economic goals. Can you imagine 100,000 visits to your offices in a year? Our workforce system experienced that many visits in the past year.In addition, we foster relationships with State and Federal government and other Workforce Investment Boards to avail ourselves of resources, best practices, and to do the best for our customers. As you read through this report, you will learn even more about the efforts and accomplishments of our Workforce Investment Board

The years to come will offer many of the same as well as new challenges. With the support of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, and particularly the Board President and our Board liaison, Supervisor Mark Church, we have taken on strategic, accountable and measurable goals to meet our community business and job seekers needs. Building and maintaining a skilled workforce that meets the changing employment demands of our county calls for flexibility and a wider vision than ever before. We have committed to being the catalyst in meeting this stress test. Our committees working congruently with the San Mateo Human Service Agency Staff towards specific accomplishments can get the job done.

We intend to reach out to all of our potential business partners within the County to make them aware of who we are and what we have to offer in skilled/trained job seekers. We already know we can be a great asset to an employer; if we provide them with long term employees with career aspirations. Retention is another key to the value and importance of our services. We look forward to the challenge of meeting both small and large businesses minimum to mass hiring. Internal county and external resources coupled with a personalized strategic plan is one option we offer in this partnership. Being the beacon for every job seeker helps to bring us full circle in our endeavors. Our continued open door to all job candidates, community and county stakeholders will insure we are here as the connection to their employment future or needs.

Please, come and assist with your suggestions and comments in our meetings held during the year. I look forward to seeing you.

Bill Allen

Chair 2004-2006
